Thermal Imaging Camera now available to loan
The Renewable Energy Action Group (REAG) has acquired a Thermal Imaging Camera, which can be borrowed for free by MRSG members. If you are not yet an MRSG member you can join now and borrow the camera straight away. The first week is free, every additional day will be charged at $10/day in order to encourage a speedy return.
Why use a thermal imaging camera?
Thermal imaging cameras detect areas of heat loss (dark areas) and unwanted heat gain (bright areas), and allow you to make changes, many of them low or no cost, that will make your home more comfortable and save energy and money. For example:
Dark areas (or bright areas in Summer) in your ceiling, walls, windows and floor often indicate inadequate or gaps in your insulation.
Bright areas on the valve and piping of your hot water tank indicate areas of heat loss. Consider a valve cosy and pipe insulation- very cheap and easy to install yourself.
Appliances showing as bright areas when on standby (not in active use) indicate they are wasting energy producing heat.
Dark or bright areas around skirting, architraves, windows, door frames, wall vents, unused chimneys etc often indicate draughts.
